Membership FAQ

Why should I use My Work Local?

There are many benefits, depending on the account type you choose.

  1. Homeowner / Client Membership
Client members can post job listings and be contacted by local workers. When you have selected the freelancer or business you would like to work with, you can discuss the job location and details.
  2. Freelancer
Freelancer members have access to posting in all directories, except the Business directory.
    Freelancer Directory
In this directory, you have access to posting unlimited listings in unlimited locations and categories. For example, a handyman with experience in plumbing, roofing, and electrical work, who is willing to work in five surrounding cities, can post a listing in each city with multiple categories per listing. Anyone searching for a freelancer in any of the listed categories and cities will find this handyman.
    Job Listings
A freelancer can post their own job listings. If a freelancer member needs work done or is looking to hire workers, they can post in the Job Listings directory.
    How To
Freelancers can post in the How To directory. The How To directory is a place for instruction for people looking for a little insight and assistance with their project. When someone finds a useful tip or instruction, they can view the member’s profile, mark them as a favorite, view their listings, and contact them to have work done.

From your listings, viewers can view your profile, read your bio, and see all the listings you have posted. Members can post reviews for your listings, so the more positive reviews you have, the better your reputation and the better your chances of getting new customers.
  3. Business
Business members have access to posting in all directories, except the Freelancer directory.
    Business Directory

Which account type is best for me?

We have three membership levels: Client, Freelancer, and Business.

  • Client membership: This account is intended for individuals who just need to post job listings. This is the typical choice for a homeowner. With this membership, a member can post job listings. Membership is free.
  • Freelancer membership: Designed for individuals who have a skill or a product that they would like to make available to the public. With a Freelancer membership, members can post in all directories except the business directory. A typical freelancer would post a listing for the work they want to do in the city where they want to work. People looking for that skill set in that city can find that freelancer, check for reviews (if any), and view the other listings created by that member. That member can be contacted through the site, by phone, or by email if listed, for job opportunities.
  • Business membership: Designed for businesses. Whether your business is established or just starting out, you can post your business or businesses in our business directory. People looking for your type of business in the area your business is located in will be able to find you, view ratings, and learn more about your business. A Business member has the ability to post in all directories except the freelancer directory.
What happens if I start out with one type of membership and later want to change to a different type of membership?

This is a common scenario. Sometimes clients decide to join the workforce, become freelancers, or start a small business with the business membership. Sometimes, a freelancer member will grow their clientele to the point where it makes sense to start a business. And sometimes, a business or freelancer member wants to cancel their membership while still being able to post jobs and post in our forum. Here are the steps for changing membership types:

  • Client to Business or Freelancer: Simply start a Business or Freelancer membership. All your job postings will remain active, but you will now be able to post in the Business or Freelancer directory.
  • Freelancer to Business: Simply start a business membership. All listings you have created as a freelancer will remain, but your Freelancer directory listings will be deactivated, as Business members cannot have freelancer listings. You will then be able to post in the Business directory.
  • Business to Freelancer: Simply start a freelancer membership. All listings you have created as a business will remain, but your business listings will be deactivated, as Freelancer members cannot have business listings. You will then be able to post in the Freelancer directory.
  • Freelancer or Business to Client: Simply cancel your membership. All your listings will be deactivated except your job listings.
