Membership FAQ
Why should I use My Work Local?
There are many benefits, depending on the account type you choose.
- Homeowner / Client Membership
Client members can post job listings and create posts in our forum. The job listings can only be viewed by Freelancer and Business members. This means that your jobs will be viewed by people with a My Work Local account who are looking for the type of job you have posted. This is a good way for local professionals to contact you about your job listing without requiring you to list your personal details publicly. When you have selected the freelancer you would like to do the work, you can discuss the job location and details.
The forum is a place where you can discuss employment, business, and education topics, if you choose. Client memberships are FREE, so there’s no obligation. - Freelancer
Freelancer members have access to posting in all directories, except the business directory.
Freelancer Directory
In this directory, you have access to posting unlimited listings in unlimited locations and categories. For example, a handyman with experience in plumbing, roofing, and electrical work, who is willing to work in five surrounding cities, can post a listing in each city with multiple categories per listing. Anyone searching for a freelancer in any the categories listed, in the cities listed in, will find this handyman.
Job Listings
A freelancer can post their own job listings. If a freelancer member needs work done or is looking to hire workers, they can post in the Job Listings directory.
Classifieds
The Classifieds section is a good place to sell excess job materials, tools, vehicles, or personal items.
How To
In order to bring more attention to your work and abilities, and to help others out, Freelancers can post in the How To directory. The How To directory is a place for instruction for people looking for a little insight and assistance with their project. When someone finds a useful tip or instruction, they can view the member’s profile, mark them as a favorite, view their listings, and contact them to have work done.

Which account type is best for me?
We have three membership levels: Client, Freelancer, and Business.
- Client membership: This account is intended for individuals who just need to post job listings. This is the typical choice for a homeowner. With this membership, a member can post job listings and can also post in our forum. Membership is free, and members’ information, such as contact details and address, is private. My Work Local strives to keep scammers and spammers from accessing your personal information.
- Freelancer membership: Designed for individuals who have a skill or a product that they would like to make available to the public. With a Freelancer membership, members can post in all directories except the business directory. A typical freelancer would post a listing for the work they want to do in the city where they want to work. People looking for that skill set in that city can find that freelancer, check for reviews (if any), and view the other listings created by that member. That member can be contacted through the site, by phone, or by email if listed, for job opportunities. Freelancer members also have access to view the job postings created by client members.
- Business membership: Designed for businesses. Whether your business is established or just starting out, you can post your business or businesses in our business directory. People looking for your type of business in the area your business is located in will be able to find you, view ratings, and learn more about your business. A Business member has the ability to post in all directories except the freelancer directory. Businesses can view client member job listings.
What happens if I start out with one type of membership and later want to change to a different type of membership?
This is a common scenario. Sometimes clients decide to join the workforce, become freelancers, or start a small business with the business membership. Sometimes, a freelancer member will grow their clientele to the point where it makes sense to start a business. And sometimes, a business or freelancer member wants to cancel their membership while still being able to post jobs and post in our forum. Here are the steps for changing membership types:
- Client to Business or Freelancer: Simply purchase the appropriate membership for your needs. All your job postings will remain active, but will now be visible to the public.
- Freelancer to Business: Simply purchase the business plan you would like. Your current plan will be cancelled, and your new plan will begin. All listings you have created as a freelancer will remain, but your freelancer listings will be deactivated, as Business members cannot have freelancer listings.
- Business to Freelancer: Simply purchase the freelancer plan you would like. Your current plan will be cancelled, and your new plan will begin. All listings you have created as a business will remain, but your business listings will be deactivated, as Freelancer members cannot have business listings.
- Freelancer or Business to Client: Simply cancel your membership. All your listings will be deactivated except your job listings. The job listings are now private and can only be viewed by Freelancer and Business members.
What is the refund policy?
Our refund policy is pretty straight forward.
- You can only have one membership at a time. However, sometimes people purchase one type of membership, then switch to another. For instance, someone purchases a monthly membership and later switches to an annual membership. If this happens within the same month, any initial charges will be refunded, and the new membership will remain in effect.
- If an annual membership is purchased, and the member switches membership type before the year is up, the amount spent for the unused months will be reimbursed, and the new membership will take effect.
- If a member purchases one annual membership type, then switches to another membership type, the member is reimbursed the amount paid for the unused months.
- Any monthly membership payment will not be reimbursed after 5 days from the payment date. If a monthly membership is paid and the member cancels within 5 days, the monthly payment will be reimbursed.
